Modesto man found guilty of child porn, trafficking

A federal jury on Wednesday found a Modesto man guilty of producing child pornography and attempted sex trafficking of a child.

Ricky Davis, 36, was convicted after a five-day trial, the U.S. attorney’s office in Sacramento reported Thursday. Davis has been in custody since his arrest Jan. 26, 2012.

In September 2011, Davis invited a 13-year-old girl to his home for the purpose of giving her a tattoo, according to federal prosecutors. Instead, Davis took sexually explicit photographs of her and posted them online with an advertisement for prostitution.

The defendant also gave the girl’s contact information to someone responding to the advertisement, prosecutors said. Investigators discovered the photos of the girl on Davis’ cellphone and computer, and a digital analysis of the photos determined the pictures were taken from the same kind of cellphone as the one belonging to the defendant.

Prosecutors said the jury deliberated for less than three hours before reaching its verdict late Wednesday afternoon.

U.S. District Judge Anthony Ishii scheduled the defendant to be sentenced June 22. Davis faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in federal prison for the child porn charge and life in prison for the attempted sex trafficking charge. The judge also could order Davis to pay fines of up to $250,000 for each charge.
