A Modesto man shot five times on Wednesday underwent surgery for the wounds, which were not life-threatening, Modesto police report.

Emergency dispatch reported calls of shots fired in the area of Mancini Park about 8:30 a.m. But someone drove the victim to his 15th Street apartment, where police then were called with information that someone had been hit, said Modesto Police Department Lt. Tom Ciccarelli.

The Modesto Fire Department reported that crews found the man lying on a bed inside his apartment about 8:45 a.m.. A firefighter medic assumed care, and AMR arrived and took the victim to a hospital. The wounds were to the man’s lower extremities, Ciccarelli said.

No witnesses have been located and there is no information at this time on the shooter or shooters or their vehicle, the lieutenant said Thursday morning. Investigators have found it difficult to locate the exact crime scene, he added. The victim said he was in or near the parking lot of the park when shot. Mancini Park is in southeast Modesto, south of River Road.
