Robbers jump counter, force Modesto convenience store clerk to the ground

A Modesto convenience store clerk suffered a minor injury early Sunday when two robbers forced her to the ground at gunpoint and stole an undisclosed amount of cash.

The robbery occurred about 6:50 a.m. Sunday at the AM-PM mini-mart in the 1200 block of North Carpenter Road, just south of Woodland Avenue in west Modesto.

Modesto police Lt. Martha Delgado said the two robbers entered the store; one of them had a handgun. It appeared no customers were in the store at the time.

Delgado said the robbers jumped the store’s front counter and forced the clerk to ground. The robbers then grabbed the cash from the register and left the store. They did not steal anything else.

The robbers got in a vehicle that was waiting for them before they left the area. It was unclear to police on Sunday whether there was a driver waiting in the vehicle for the robbers.

Police described the suspects’ vehicle as a dark-colored four-door vehicle. Delgado said the robbers were described as two black men; one of them was wearing a dark-gray hooded-sweatshirt, and the other had a thin build. There was no further suspect description.

Delgado said said the clerk suffered a minor arm injury as she was forced to the ground. The clerk was examined by medics at the scene; she was not hospitalized. No shots were fired during the robbery, and no other injuries were reported.

Police ask anyone with information about this armed robbery to call Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636.
