Calaveras County deputies went searching for weed. They turned up a whole lot.
Several unregistered and illegal marijuana grow sites were discovered by Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department deputies this week.
The total find netted more than 8,000 plants, over 300 pounds of processed weed and one arrest.
On Wednesday in the 10000 block of Scenic Valley Road in Jenny Lind, deputies served a search warrant at a property that had a large outdoor and small indoor operation.
Sgt. Anthony Eberhardt said 7,589 pot plants and 300 pounds of processed marijuana were seized. There was nobody at the property.
On Tuesday, in the 2100 block of Evans Road in Valley Springs, deputies were called to the property on a report of an altercation involving gunshots.
There, they found an unregistered marijuana grow that had 39 plants. Also discovered was nearly 1.5 pounds of concentrated cannabis, along with several illegal aerial fireworks.
Parolee Eric Scott Schroeder, 28, of Valley Springs, was arrested on suspicion of marijuana cultivation, possession of more than eight grams of concentrated cannabis and resisting arrest.
On Monday in the 8400 block of West Murray Creek Road in Mountain Ranch, deputies served a search warrant that netted 399 marijuana plants.
Two men were seen running from the property and into the woods, where they weren’t found.
