Preliminary hearing scheduled for Waterford double-homicide

A judge has scheduled a preliminary hearing to start Sept. 22 for a man accused of murder in the shooting of two people outside a bar near Waterford last year.

Alejandro Naranjo, 21, is charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted carjacking. He also is accused of being a felon in possession of a gun.

Corrine Winter, 33, of Modesto and Jose Antonio Leon, 34, of Ceres were killed outside El Rincon bar. Naranjo is suspected of trying to steal a vehicle belonging to one of the victims.

The shooting occurred about 11:30 p.m. April 26 outside the bar at 10012 Yosemite Blvd., about 2 miles west of Waterford. Winter and Leon were pronounced dead at the scene.

At the conclusion of the preliminary hearing, the judge will determine whether there is sufficient evidence for Naranjo to stand trial.

The defendant remains in custody at the Stanislaus County Jail. His bail is set at $22 million.
