Stanislaus deputies investigate cockfighting report

Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies investigated neighbors’ reports of cockfighting taking place at a River Road residence northwest of Oakdale on Sunday morning.

Sgt. Jon McQueary said the homeowner refused to cooperate with deputies and would not let them onto the property. But he said deputies did see several people flee on foot from outbuildings on the property. McQueary said the property had several outbuildings.

He said deputies did not have enough probable cause to enter the property, such as witnessing the cockfighting taking place.

McQueary said neighbors reported seven or eight vehicles were at the property for a cockfight. He said neighbors claim cockfighting takes place at the property about a couple of times a month.

Deputies were dispatched about 8:15 a.m. to the residence in the 7100 block of River Road.
