1-year old found wandering at Modesto’s Budgetel at 2 a.m.

A 23-year-old mother was arrested Wednesday after her 1-year-old daughter was found wandering at 2 a.m. on the second-story landing of the Budgetel Motel.

The child was walking toward the stairs when a witness saw her, said Modesto Police spokesperson Heather Graves. The witness took the girl back to her motel room and found the girl’s 2-year-old brother unattended inside.

Modesto police were dispatched to the McHenry Avenue motel. Officers contacted Child Protective Services and interviewed witnesses; at about 4 a.m. the mother returned to the motel while officers were still on scene.

Auja Nicole Braggs was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment. The children were released to the custody of a relative.
