Crows Landing Road standoff ends; suspect still on the loose
Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies on Tuesday afternoon surrounded a home on Crows Landing Road after a woman reported her son showed up there in a stolen car.
Deputies went to the home in the 6400 block of Crows Landing Road at about 1:45 p.m. and at one point were communicating with the suspect by phone.
After the suspect stopped communicating with deputies they shut down the road and surrounded the home for about two hours.
In the interest of safety for deputies and the public, they eventually left the home, said Sgt. Frank Soria. They returned later to recover the stolen vehicle and the suspect’s mother gave them permission to search the house but the suspect was not there.
They identified the man as 23-year-old Faustino Vera. He is wanted for possession of stolen property. The vehicle had been stolen during a residential burglary in Merced on Sunday, Soria said.
