Two men stabbed during fight at Modesto apartment complex
A fight at a Modesto apartment complex that put two men in the hospital and one behind bars started when one of the victims saw the suspect pin his sister against a wall.
The man and his friend were visiting his sister at the Emerald Point Apartments on Standiford Avenue, west of McHenry Avenue, on Friday evening when he heard his sister arguing with a neighbor, Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Heather Graves said.
He went outside and saw the suspect holding his sister against the wall.
Graves said he confronted the suspect, who threatened to kill him, and a physical fight ensued.
During the fight the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the chest, arm and back. The victim’s friend intervened, jumping on the suspect’s back, but the suspect reached around and stabbed him in the buttock.
Both were able to get away and the suspect retreated into his apartment.
The first victim’s sister called 911 and drove the men to a hospital, where they were met by officers.
Both men suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.
Additional officers responded to the apartment and told the suspect to come out of his home. He initially ignored them but eventually came out to the second-story balcony, Graves said.
After speaking with officers from the balcony for several minutes the suspect, 34-year-old Mikko Dewayne Goodman, surrendered.
During their investigation, officers learned the argument between Goodman and his neighbor began when she accused him of burglarizing her home the night before.
Goodman was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and making criminal threats.
