Fire burns Modesto home, displaces residents
Flames from a burning shed spread to a west Modesto home and a neighboring structure early Sunday, temporarily displacing two residents in the process.
The fire was reported shortly before 7 a.m. at the home in the 800 block of Second Street, several blocks west of Highway 99. The blaze appeared to have started in the shed behind the home, according to the Modesto Fire Department.
The flames quickly spread to a bedroom in the back of the home and its attic. The occupants got out of the home safely with help from Modesto police officers.
Some of the flames reached an eave of a neighboring home, but firefighters knocked down the fire before it spread further. The firefighters had the blaze under control in about 15 minutes, fire officials said.
There were no injuries reported. Red Cross officials were at the scene to help the two displaced residents find a place to stay.
The fire caused about $90,000 in damage to the home and its contents. The cause of the fire had not been determined.
Ceres Fire Department assisted in putting out the blaze.
