Country music superstar Martina McBride, with 20 top-10 hits, including six No. 1’s, to her name, will perform this summer at the Stanislaus County Fair in Turlock.

“Martina McBride has one of the most recognizable voices in the country music industry,” fair spokeswoman Adrenna Alkhas said in a news release Thursday. “To have a legend like Martina performing at the fair is very thrilling and something everyone will be looking forward to.”

McBride was ranked as the most-played female vocalist on country radio from 1999 to 2010 and was honored with an induction into the Grand Ole Opry in 1995. The Country Music Association has named her female vocalist of the year four times. The Academy of Country Music has honored her as top female three times and the Recording Academy has nominated her for 14 Grammy Awards.

Her hits include “Independence Day,” “Wild Angels,” “Valentine” and “When God-Fearin’ Women Get the Blues.”

The release of her latest album, “Everlasting,” comes during a time of numerous career highlights. McBride will join Country Music Hall of Fame member George Strait on his farewell tour in the spring and her first book, published by Harper Collins, came out in October. Titled “Around the Table: Recipes and Inspiration for Gatherings Throughout the Year,” the 320-page book includes McBride family traditions, recipes and menu ideas and is “chock-full of personal anecdotes and memories.”

McBride last played the county fair in 2002. Some 6,400 people turned out for the concert, nearly filling the 6,800-capacity FoodMaxx Arena. A Bee review of the show said: “Unlike some artists whose live performances don’t match the quality of their recordings, McBride lived up to her reputation as a premier singer. Her voice was strong and clear, whether she was singing soft ballads or rollicking blues songs.”

McBride will perform July 14 at 8:30 p.m. on the Bud Light Variety Free Stage. The concert will be hosted by KATM-FM 103.3 and is free with the price of fair admission.

The Stanislaus County Fair opens July 10 for a 10-day run. Discounted fair admission tickets, unlimited-ride wristbands and the fair season pass will be on sale beginning May 2. Corporate ticket sales will be available to purchase at a highly discounted rate. Visit the fair’s website at www.stancofair.com for ticket sale information.

The fair will feature a children’s area including the Wizards Challenge Exhibit, 10 nights of free celebrity concerts, three stages of live entertainment, upward of 30,000 local exhibits and more than 1,750 animals. There also will be motorsports and a California Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association rodeo in the FoodMaxx Arena.
