Hughson man dies in Ceres crash

A Hughson man was pronounced dead at a Modesto hospital after a nearly head-on collision in the 2600 block of Hatch Road on Thursday morning.

A Teichert Construction truck was westbound on Hatch when it suddenly veered to the left, striking an oncoming Chevy Tahoe, according to a news release from the Ceres Police Department. Officers arrived about 5:15 a.m. and found the driver of the construction truck unresponsive in his seat.

Officers called for emergency medical personnel and together they attempted lifesaving efforts for more than half an hour, the release said. The driver, 45-year-old Thomas Milton Taylor Jr., was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Tahoe suffered minor injuries.

The cause of the crash may be related to a medical issue suffered by Taylor, Ceres police said.

Hatch Road was closed between Central Avenue and Moffet Road for nearly two hours. The Ceres police Traffic Unit is conducting a fatal traffic crash investigation.

Investigators ask anyone with information about the case to call Officer Keith Kitcher at (209) 538-5620.
