What: TEAM IN TRAINING REGISTRATION AND KICKOFF
When: Thursday, 6 p.m.
Where: Modesto Centre Plaza, 1000 L St.
Info: The Northern San Joaquin Valley chapter of Team in Training will hold registration opportunities in conjunction with its formal kickoff. Registration for participants to train to run and/or walk a marathon, half marathon or to bicycle will be accepted prior to the kickoff event. Local participants train as a group twice a week, receive a daily plan for individual workouts and have access to free seminars on issues such as nutrition, injury prevention and fundraising tips. Volunteer mentors provide guidance and support. The kickoff will be the last opportunity for registration for the spring 2015 events. Info: Children are invited to become part of the Salida library “STEAM Team” as a presenter from Great Valley Museum will help participants engage in hands-on scientific activities. YESTERYEARS
75 YEARS AGO: Hughson Union High School closed for a week because of 60 cases of cold and influenza among teachers and students. Principal A.D. Schneider of the grammar school stated that even though there were many absences in the school, he would try to keep the school open till the end of the day. As a result of all the illnesses, high school boxing and wrestling matches had to be postponed indefinitely.
