‘ARTIST IN WOODS’ SEEKS APPLICANTS

The Stanislaus National Forest, in partnership with the 3 Forests Interpretive Association, will accept applications from Feb. 1 through April 15 for the 2015 Artist in the Woods program. Professional artists in all media can apply for a two-week residence in a cabin in the Summit Ranger District during October. A stipend will be provided for meals and a portion of travel and supplies. In return, the artist is asked to donate an original piece of artwork from – and representative of – the stay. In the case of performing arts, this may be a performance. The artist also will conduct a workshop for the public in his or her discipline. MEET SALIDA’S NEW FIREFIGHTERS

The Salida Chamber of Commerce is holding a party Friday to welcome the community’s new and returning firefighters. The Salida Fire Protection District resumed fire services Jan. 15 after several years of relying on the Modesto Regional Fire Authority and Modesto. The party is 3 to 7 p.m. at the fire station at Salida Boulevard and Broadway. Hot dogs, cookies and drinks will be served. The public can meet the firefighters. The public also can sign up to apply to become a volunteer firefighter.

FREE TECH PROGRAMS AT MODESTO LIBRARY

The Modesto branch of the Stanislaus County Library next month will offer free instructional programs on its e-resources, beginning with “Tech Connect: Zinio” on Feb. 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. Participants will learn how to access Zinio through the library. The service offers library customers the ability to stream or download free e-magazines. The library offers 51 magazine titles for customers, with no checkout limits and no due dates. On Feb. 21, the library will offer “Tech Connect: eResources.” From 1 to 3 p.m., participants can learn how to access the library’s many free e-resources. Registration is required for the programs; call the reference desk at (209) 558-7814 to sign up. The Modesto library is at 1500 I St.
