HUGHSON UNIFIED TO APPOINT TRUSTEE
The Hughson Unified School District board will hold a special meeting to interview and appoint a board member to replace 11-year board veteran Mark Harman, who resigned Nov. 30 because he moved out of the district. The appointee will serve until the November election. Superintendent Brian Beck said there were six applicants for the position; however, one did not live in the trustee area being vacated. The board will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the district office, 6815 Hughson Ave., Hughson. Find the agenda at www.hughson.k12.ca.us.
GARDEN CLUB OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS
The Modesto Garden Club is accepting applications from eligible high school seniors and college students for six $1,500 scholarships. Completed applications packets are due by April 1. Interested students may email the scholarship chairman at gardenscholarship@gmail.com for application information and forms. Applicants must have a major related to the Modesto Garden Club mission, attendance at a two- or four-year college as an undergraduate for the 2015-16 academic year, Stanislaus County residency, or attend high school or college in Stanislaus County. Applications will be scored on how students’ answers relate to the Modesto Garden Club’s mission to “educate, impart knowledge and skills of landscape design, flora culture, agriculture, arborvitae, insects, ornamental horticulture and ornithology; to instill the joy of gardening for club members, schoolchildren, senior citizens and the community at large.”
SIERRA-DELTA RED CROSS SEEKS HEROES
The American Red Cross of Sierra-Delta, which covers San Joaquin, Calaveras and Amador counties, is seeking local heroes to be honored at the 13th annual Red Cross Heroes Breakfast on March 25. Nominees can be anyone who lives or works in one of the counties who has gone above and beyond with an act of selflessness. The nomination deadline is Feb. 13.
