Alan K. Cassidy was sworn in Friday afternoon as a Stanislaus Superior Court judge. Judge Loretta Murphy Begen administered the oath of office. Cassidy, of Modesto, had served as chief deputy district attorney since 2008, having previously been senior deputy district attorney since 1998. Cassidy was an associate at Perry and Wildman from 1994 to 1998 and at Grisez, Orenstein and Hertle from 1991 to 1994. He served as a deputy district attorney at the Orange County District Attorney’s Office from 1990 to 1991. Cassidy earned his Juris Doctor from the Southwestern Law School and his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Irvine. A Democrat, he fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Susan D. Siefkin. On Dec. 24, Gov. Jerry Brown announced the appointment of Cassidy and Rubén A. Villalobos to judgeships in the Stanislaus Superior Court. Villalobos will be sworn in next week.
