YESTERYEARS

100 YEARS AGO: A burglary suspect changed his plea of not guilty to guilty after his court-appointed attorney told him the house he attempted to break and enter belonged to former Stanislaus County Sheriff A.S. Dingley. Defendant A.J. Sullivan requested immediate sentencing from the judge and would have been sent to Folsom State Prison for three years. However, Sullivan stated he did not like Folsom, so the court sent him to San Quentin. Sullivan was stopped in the act by the sheriff’s wife, who fired one shot at him as he was trying to climb through an open window.
