Fatal crash into west Modesto home

A woman died early Sunday after the vehicle she was driving crashed into a home’s garage in west Modesto.

Modesto police Sgt. Jerry Ramar said authorities were trying to confirm the woman’s identity. She was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Nobody else was in the vehicle with the driver when she crashed.

The crash occurred about 5 a.m. in the 200 block of South Emerald Avenue, just south of Maze Boulevard.

Ramar said the vehicle appeared to be traveling at a high speed when it struck parked cars along the street. That collision forced the woman’s vehicle off the road and through the home’s yard, before hitting other parked vehicles in the driveway. He said the vehicle then crashed into the garage.

There were no other injuries reported.
