YOSEMITE OFFERS FREE MLK DAY ADMISSION

Yosemite National Park will offer free admission to visitors Monday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. All other fees associated with camping, lodging or activities in the park will remain the same. Although the weather has been mild, visitors coming to the park are urged to be wary of ice on the road. Additionally, if the weather changes, chain restrictions may apply on all roads within the park. For updated weather and road information, call (209) 372-0200.

MORE TIME TO HONOR OUTSTANDING WOMEN

The Stanislaus County Commission for Women has extended the nomination deadline to Jan. 19 for the 2015 Outstanding Women Awards. Categories include Women of History, Living Pioneers and Young Women (high school seniors to age 24, which includes a $500 cash scholarship). Consider nominating women who have made a contribution to the quality of life for all women and children. Nomination forms are available at all Stanislaus County Library branches, via email at sccw01@gmail.com or at www.stanislauswomen.org. Nominations must be postmarked or arrive by email no later than Jan. 19. Awards will be presented March 14.

RAILTOWN STATE PARK SEEKING VOLUNTEERS

Railtown 1897 State Historic Park in Jamestown is seeking volunteers to help with education and interpretation programs; it will host an open house Jan. 31 to offer more information. The volunteer open house will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Railtown, on Fifth Avenue at Reservoir Road. Volunteer applications must be submitted no later than Feb. 12, as training will begin Feb. 14. Interested volunteers can download an application at www.railtown1897.org or call (209) 984-4408.
