Authorities identify man killed in crash near Denair
The Stanislaus County Coroner’s office on Tuesday identified the man who died in a single-vehicle crash near Denair Monday afternoon.
Gary Arnebeck, 52, who had addresses listed in Modesto and Turlock, was driving a Ford Ranger east on Tuolumne Road when the accident occurred at about 2 p.m.
According to witnesses, the truck sped up as it approached a T-intersection with Gratton Road. The truck ran a stop sign and slammed into a collection of rocks and a tree in front of a home. The truck sustained major front-end damage, trapping the driver inside. Emergency crews tried for some time to free the man from his car but pronounced him dead before they could free him.
The California Highway Patrol said it wasn’t clear why Arnebeck sped into the rocks; the Coroner’s Office will determine if he suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash. The autopsy had not been conducted as of Tuesday afternoon.
