TUOLUMNE CLEANUP NEEDS VOLUNTEERS

Operation 9-2-99 is a monthly volunteer effort to clean up the Tuolumne River in Modesto. It needs people from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday to remove trash from the north bank between Beard Brook Park and the Ninth Street Bridge. Volunteers should bring gloves and water and wear sturdy shoes. All other cleanup supplies will be provided. Volunteers need to sign a liability form, and those under 18 need a parent signature. Project details, dates, the liability form, a map to the cleanup location, and before-and-after photos of past work can be found at www.tinyurl.com/operation9-2-99 or by contacting Chris Guptill at guptill.c@monet.k12.ca.us.

GIRL SCOUT COOKIE SEASON HAS BEGUN

Ding-dong, Girl Scouts calling. This year’s Girl Scout Cookie Program officially began Friday with presales, in which Daisies, Brownies and older Scouts sell to friends, family and neighbors. There’s more to Girl Scout Cookies than what’s in the box. The cookie program is about the essential skills a girl gains from interacting with customers, according to a news release from Girl Scouts Heart of Central California. It’s about the experience of running her own cookie business and working with others. And new to this year, Girl Scouts will be able to sell their cookies online through Digital Cookie, adding new skills to the program, like online marketing and e-commerce. After preorders, Girl Scouts will sell cookies at booths outside of local storefronts from Feb. 27 to March 22. Cookies are $5 per package this year. For the Girl Scout Cookie Finder App and more information, go to www.girlscoutcookies.org.
