Authorities name Hughson woman in fatal crash

Stanislaus County coroner officials on Monday released the name of a 60-year-old woman who died Friday morning in a crash near Empire.

Paula Atchison was pronounced dead at the scene.

About 6:40 a.m. Friday, Atchison was driving a 1992 Chevrolet Blazer north on Santa Fe Avenue near South Avenue. The California Highway Patrol said the Blazer drifted to the left across the oncoming lanes and went off the road, hitting concrete drain pipe housing.

Authorities said Atchison was wearing a seat belt and not using a cellphone when the crash occurred. Investigators did not believe alcohol or drugs were involved.
