Pedestrian struck, killed by car in Turlock
A woman died Friday night after being struck by a car while crossing the street in Turlock.
The woman was walking east across Lander Avenue in a crosswalk at Bernell Avenue when she was struck by a northbound Prius about 7:15 p.m., according to Turlock police Officer Mayra Lewis.
The woman was in the crosswalk when she was hit; the impact propelled her into the air and she landed on the pavement just north of the intersection.
She was taken to Emanuel Medical Center where she died. Lewis said Saturday that the woman, in her mid-50s, had not been identified.
The driver, a 59-year-old woman, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Alcohol was not a factor in the collision, Lewis said.
