Modesto Gospel Mission held its Thanksgiving Banquet and Bundle-Up on Wednesday, providing a traditional Thanksgiving meal to 825 needy men, women and children. That number includes about 85 “overnight guests” at the mission, said Director Kevin Carroll. The great majority of the people who ate also left with free winter wear such as coats, hats and gloves. Carroll said he saw a few more children this year than last, and “probably 40 percent of the kids were under 6 or 7 years old.” But he said the volunteer crew included a number of children, which he finds inspiring. “Stanislaus County is such a great place for volunteerism, and it’s good to see a lot of families serving together.”
