What: TOY AND GIFT DRIVE

Where: Modesto Junior College East Campus Business, Behavioral and Social Services Office, Founders Hall, Room 100, 435 College Ave.
Info: The human services department of Modesto Junior College is collecting toys and gifts for foster children in Stanislaus County. New, unwrapped toys and gifts for infants through teenagers are needed – toys for younger children and gift cards for teenagers. Gifts will be distributed to children at the annual Stanislaus County Foster Parent Association’s Christmas party Dec. 15. Info: The 20th annual Pumpkin Pie Contest seeks participants to enter two pies. Prizes will be awarded for first and second place, and all pies will be donated to the United Samaritan Foundation’s Daily Bread Program and served as dessert on Thanksgiving. What: LEGO DAY

Where: Patterson branch of the Stanislaus County Library, 46 N. Salado Ave.

75 YEARS AGO: W.C. Shackelford was re-elected as secretary of the California Retailers Association at the group’s annual meeting in San Francisco. Other locals who attended the meeting were Louis Hammer, also of Modesto, and John D. Turner of Stockton.
