Man critical after being hit by car in Modesto

A man is in critical condition after being hit by a car trying to cross Yosemite Boulevard on Tuesday afternoon.

The 20-year-old man was walking north across Yosemite at Santa Ana Avenue when he was hit by the car traveling east, said Modesto police spokeswoman Heather Graves.

The 28-year-old driver stopped at the scene. Drugs or alcohol are not suspected to have contributed to the collision.

Graves said the pedestrian suffered major head injuries and was taken to an area hospital.
