Second Harvest Food Bank gets big donation from Foster Farms
Second Harvest Food Bank in Manteca kicked off its Thanksgiving Turkey Drive with a delivery of 750 donated turkeys – about 13,500 pounds, enough to feed up to 14,000 people – from Foster Farms. The turkeys will be distributed in the coming weeks to help feed families in Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties.
Second Harvest is one of six West Coast food banks receiving Foster Farms turkey donations this Thanksgiving to distribute in California, Oregon and Washington. Altogether, Livingston-based Foster Farms is donating more than 4,500 turkeys – or 81,000 pounds of turkey.
Second Harvest grew out of Good Samaritan Community Services in 1976 and has been collecting food to feed the needy and nonprofit charities in San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties ever since. It has distributed more than 12 million pounds of food to more than 400,000 needy individuals in its growing programs. Learn more about Second Harvest at www.localfoodbank.org.
