FAIR TO ANNOUNCE MAJOR DONATION

The Stanislaus County Fair plans to announce a major donation at 5:30 p.m. Monday. No details on the donor, amount or purpose were available, but fair leaders called it an “anchor gift” that could encourage other people to give. “This is a momentous occasion for us,” said Chris Borovansky, chief executive officer for the fair. “We have community members that believe in what we do and what we stand for who are willing to protect our fair and be involved.” County fairs in California have lost their state funding, forcing them to get by on operating income from the annual events and rentals, along with donations. “With the elimination of all fair funding by the state four years ago, it has become even more important to seek community support,” board President Ray Souza said in the release. The announcement will be at the start of a board meeting at the fair office, 900 N. Broadway, Turlock.

HOMEOWNER’S BILL OF RIGHTS PROGRAM SET

A free program, Understanding the New Homeowner’s Bill of Rights, will be offered at the Stanislaus County Library at 2 p.m. Tuesday. It will cover how the new set of laws came into existence and what protections have been added for the consumer. Participants also will learn how homeowners and renters may seek redress if they feel their lender or landlord violated the laws. The program is sponsored by Friends of the Modesto Library. The library is at 1500 I St., with free parking in the lot behind the library and on surrounding streets. For more information, contact the library at (209) 558-7814.
