As it gears up for the holiday season and beyond, the U.S. Postal Service is having its first online career fair on Wednesday.

The Postal Service has immediate job openings for career and temporary positions throughout the Sacramento Postal District, which stretches from the Oregon border to Fresno, according to a news release from USPS spokesman Augustine Ruiz Jr.

While he did not have an estimate of how many positions may be available in Stanislaus County, Ruiz said it “looks like the district is looking to hire about 200 employees, a mixture of city carrier assistants and clerks and mail handlers. They’ve pretty much hired what they need for the holidays, but are looking to keep hiring past the holidays.”

Current available positions in many locations include automotive technician, mail-processing clerk, mail handler assistant, city carrier assistant, custodian, postal support employee custodial, tractor-trailer operator, PSE tractor-trailer operator, facilities management and business-to-business sales, according to the news release.

The USPS Virtual Career Fair will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday. To participate, job seekers should go to www.usps.com/jobfair, create an account and log in at event time. Participants will also have an opportunity to chat live with USPS recruiters.

Minimum requirements for USPS employment include:

▪ Be 18 years of age or older.

▪ Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

▪ Hold a valid state driver’s license.

▪ Have a safe driving record.

▪ Pass a pre-employment drug screening.

Specific job requirements and restrictions can be found at www.usps.com/jobs.

“The Postal Service is a great place to work,” said Sacramento District Human Resources Manager Mark Villalpando in the news release. “This is a tremendous opportunity to experience a job that is very challenging and rewarding.”
