Modesto Junior College forum will discuss water issues

A broad-ranging forum on water issues will be held Wednesday evening at Modesto Junior College.

The 6 to 8 p.m. event will include numerous speakers from Stanislaus County irrigation districts, statewide agriculture groups and government officials.

MJC’s student government is hosting the free event in the Mary Stuart Rogers Student Learning Center on the college’s west campus.

Speakers will include Phil Brumley, the Douglas Wilson Co.’s consulting managing director; Mike Wade, the California Farm Water Coalition’s director; Walt Ward, Stanislaus County’s water resource manager; and Paul Wenger, the California Farm Bureau Federation’s president.

Also speaking will be Modesto Irrigation District Director Jake Wenger; Turlock Irrigation District Director Michael Frantz; and Oakdale Irrigation District General Manager Steve Knell.

Among the topics that will be discussed will be sustainable groundwater management proposals, surface water management issues, unimpaired river flow regulations, and the re-licensing of the New Don Pedro reservoir and powerhouse.
