Turlock woman killed in Patterson collision

A Turlock woman died Tuesday morning when she ran a stop sign north of Patterson and her car was hit by a big rig hauling an empty cattle trailer, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The woman, whose name was not released pending notification of her family, was driving a Smart Fortwo west on Eucalyptus Avenue at just before 11 a.m. when she ran the stop sign at Sycamore Avenue.

She drove into the path of the big rig which hit the left side of the Smart car, propelling it into a nearby orchard. The 30-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the big rig, 55-year-old John Van Dyk III, of French Camp, was not injured.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected as a contributing factor to the collision.
