Authorities identify bicyclist killed in west Modesto crash
A bicyclist who died after being hit by a car in west Modesto Wednesday evening was identified as 47-year David Wilcoxson, Modesto Police said Thursday.
Wilcoxson was apparently riding east on the north side of Kansas Avenue, against traffic and a red light, when he was hit by a Volkswagen traveling north on North Carpenter Road, said Sgt. Jerry Ramar.
The accident happened at about 5:30 p.m. The driver of the Volkswagen, 19-year-old Jose Deanda, remained at the scene and cooperated with officers.
Wilcoxson was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A bottle with an alcoholic drink that witnesses told officers belonged to the man lay on the road next to his shoes Wednesday evening.
This is the second fatal accident this week involving a cyclist in west Modesto.
On Monday, Arcadio Plancarte Nolasco, 79, died Monday morning after being struck by four vehicles as he pedaled his three-wheel cycle along Maze Boulevard just east of North Carpenter.
