Modesto driver booked in deadly crash identified

The Modesto man involved in a fatal collision over the weekend was released from the hospital Monday night and booked on suspicion of murder, vehicular manslaughter and felony driving under the influence.

Modesto police identified the man Tuesday as 32-year-old Rigoberto Ramirez Aleman.

Aleman was driving a Chevrolet Malibu south on L Street when he ran a stop sign and collided with an Audi heading west on L Street, police said. The driver of the Audi, 38-year-old San Mateo resident John Bixby, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

According to court records, Aleman was arrested less than three weeks ago on suspicion of driving under the influence, driving with a suspended or a revoked license and willful cruelty to a child, as well as drug charges.
