A contractor will begin widening part of Oakdale Road in booming southwest Riverbank on Monday.

The $1.24 million project is expected to take about five months, the city said in a Facebook post. Drivers can expect lane shifts and other traffic controls.

The project will result in four lanes from Morrill Road south to a Modesto Irrigation District canal. Oakdale Road already is that wide in its other segments between Claribel and Patterson roads.

The widening will serve the Crossroads West area, where most of Riverbank’s recent growth has been. That includes a major shopping center by that name and numerous houses.

United Pavement Maintenance of Hughson is doing the work under a contract approved in May by the City Council. Fees charged on Riverbank land developers will cover the cost, which includes sidewalks and landscaping.
