Modesto and Stanislaus fire crews were dispatched to a residential structure fire near Melrose Street and Scenic Drive early Monday morning, according to an incident summary from the Modesto Fire Department.

The fire was in an abandoned house but spread to an occupied residence, according to Battalion Chief John Bairos. There were no reported injuries, and the Red Cross provided assistance to people displaced by the fire .

According to the incident summary, response to the fire included seven engines and two trucks.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, said Bairos. Power lines were down on two sides of the structure, according to an incident summary.

The Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit is working to determine the origin and cause of the blaze.
