Bee Book Club announces next selection, featuring an octopus who knows the answers
The Modesto Bee and Bookish Modesto are excited to announce our third read for the Bee Book Club: “Remarkably Bright Creatures,” by Shelby Van White. Now adapted into a Netflix film, the book includes a protagonist from Modesto.
The novel follows recent widow Tova Sullivan, who works at the Sowell Bay Aquarium. Keeping busy is how she copes, especially since the disappearance of her 18-year-old son 30 years prior. But her relationship with a remarkably bright octopus named Marcellus, who is able to deduce what happened to her son all those years ago, offers her answers to questions that are decades old.
The book club will gather on Aug. 18 at Bookish Modesto to go over our latest read with coffee and cookies. Event details will be announced soon. Participants will be entered in a raffle for a $25 gift card to Bookish Modesto.
