The body of a swimmer was recovered from the Tuolumne River in the area of the Fox Grove Fishing Access in Hughson on Saturday afternoon.

At about 4:45 p.m., Modesto Fire Department water rescue teams, medics and an engine crew, as well as the Hughson Fire Department, responded to a water rescue call at the popular recreation area.

Three people swimming in the area were in trouble, and a subject on a personal watercraft brought two of them to shore. A third person was missing prior to the arrival of emergency responders, according to a Modesto Fire incident summary.

“The missing person was located underwater and was deceased,” the summary says, and rescue personnel assisted the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office with recovering the body from the river.

No additional information was available Sunday morning.
