After years of turnover, Turlock set to hire new city leader. How to join meeting
The Turlock City Council will vote to hire a new city manager.
The approval of John J. Murphy to the post is on the agenda for a 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, council meeting, according to a news release from the city.
Over the past decade, Turlock has had 11 different city managers, many of whom served in the role on a temporary basis, according to a February story in The Bee.
Murphy’s recommendation follows a recruitment process over several months. “Murphy emerged as the leading candidate based on his experience, qualifications, and commitment to public service,” the release said.
Murphy has more than two decades of executive leadership in municipal and county government, according to the release, including as city manager and senior local government administrator.
A military veteran, he recently received a doctorate of public administration, the release said.
“After a thorough and competitive selection process, we are confident in Dr. Murphy’s experience, leadership, and ability to serve our community,” Mayor Amy Bublak said in the release.
If approved, Murphy will oversee the city’s day-to-day operations, enact city council policy, lead municipal departments and advance initiatives on behalf of the community.
