A Modesto motorcyclist suffered major injuries Saturday afternoon after crashing along State Route 108 in the Sonora area, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. Saturday near Confidence/South Fork roads, the CHP said in a news release.

Authorities said 48-year-old Havinder Singh of Modesto was riding a 2020 Indian Scout motorcycle east on Highway 108 when he allowed the motorcycle to travel off the roadway. The motorcycle then struck a sign and a tree, ejecting Singh from the bike, according to the CHP.

Singh suffered major injuries and was flown by air ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for treatment.

CHP said it remains under investigation whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.

“This is an unfortunate event that occurred,” Sonora Area Commander Lt. R. Matyshock said in a statement. “As a reminder, please familiarize yourself with roadways that you intend to travel upon and travel at speeds appropriate for those roadways.”
