Four hurt in Hughson crash caused by unsafe driving, CHP reports
Four people were hurt in a Hughson collision Saturday morning that resulted from unsafe passing and turning maneuvers, the California Highway Patrol reported. All were taken to hospitals for treatment of minor to major injuries.
The crash happened at about 8:30 a.m. on Hatch Road east of Clinton Road. Arriving officers found the two involved vehicles — a white 2017 Hyundai sedan and a white 2021 Mercedes AMG SUV — on the south shoulder of Hatch.
The preliminary investigation indicates Hyundai driver was westbound on Hatch Road, driving in the left-turn lane while passing another vehicle, the CHP said in a news release. The vehicle speed has not yet been determined.
The driver of the Mercedes was eastbound on Hatch, traveling about 55 mph. The driver of the Hyundai turned to the left, into the eastbound traffic lane, and struck the Mercedes head-on.
The Hyundai driver, 22-year-old Jonathan Alejandro Robles Sanchez of Hickman, suffered major injuries. The same is true for his two passengers, 25-year-old Angel Flores and 24-year-old Ciarra Bowerman, both of Modesto. Bowerman was not wearing her seatbelt and was partially ejected from the sedan during the crash.
The driver and sole occupant of the Mercedes, 55-year-old Sukhjinder Singh Sanghera of Hughson, suffered minor injuries.
Alcohol and drugs do not appear to factor in this crash, the CHP reported.
