East Sonora gets longer Highway 108 bypass

The second phase of the East Sonora Bypass on Highway 108 has opened, but drivers should watch out for continuing construction work this week, the California Department of Transportation announced. The new $54 million stretch runs from Standard Road to Draper Mine Road, bypassing a part of the old state highway that will now become a county road. The first phase opened in 2004 between Sanguinetti Road, near the east end of Sonora, and Standard. It connects with the Sonora Bypass, completed in 1988 from the Jamestown area east.
