2 injured when vehicle plunges 200 feet off Tuolumne County’s New Priest Grade
Two people were airlifted to trauma centers Saturday after their vehicle went over the side of New Priest Grade Road/Highway 120 in Tuolumne County, authorities said.
The crash was reported around 12:30 p.m. April 19, prompting a multi-agency response from the Tuolumne County Fire Department, Cal Fire and other emergency crews.
When responders arrived, they located the vehicle about 200 feet down a steep embankment, according to a social media post from the Tuolumne County Fire Department.
Rescuers used a low-angle rope system to reach and retrieve the two occupants from the hillside. Both patients were then flown by helicopter to trauma centers in the Central Valley for treatment.
The extent of their injuries was not immediately released.
Agencies assisting in the response included the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office, Cal Fire Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit, the CHP, CAL STAR, PHI Air Medical and Caltrans.
No information was immediately available about what caused the crash.
