Stanislaus County is one of California’s 10 cheapest for gas. See current prices

Drivers across California are paying some of the highest gas prices in the nation.

Gas prices have climbed to their highest U.S. averages in four years, according to AAA.

“The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline went up 8 cents since last week to $4.16,” the automobile association said in a Thursday, April 9, news release. “The last time the national average reached that price was in early August of 2022.”

However, there’s a bit of relief for Stanislaus County drivers.

The Modesto area ranks among the 10 cheapest areas in the state to fill up, according to AAA.

Here’s what drivers can expect to pay — and where to find the cheapest gas stations:

What is causing gas prices to rise in Stanislaus County?

Gas prices in California — including Stanislaus County — have been steadily rising over the past month or so, driven in part by the war in Iran.

Even though the United States does not import oil directly from Iran, the conflict can still disrupt global supply, AAA spokesperson Doug Johnson previously told The Sacramento Bee.

“Crude oil prices remain high, even as they’ve fluctuated in recent days following the announcement of a two-week ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran,” AAA said.

As of Friday, April 10, crude oil prices were hovering around $94 per barrel, according to Business Insider.

While much of the recent spike in gas prices is tied to tensions in the Middle East, Johnson said, other seasonal factors — including California’s switch to more expensive summer-blend gasoline and refinery shutdowns — are also affecting costs.
