An 80-year-old woman died following a crash Tuesday evening at a rural intersection near Denair, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred around 5:30 p.m. at Gratton Road and East Avenue, the CHP said in a news release.

Emergency crews arrived to find a Chevrolet pickup and a Honda sedan with major damage. The driver of the Honda, identified as 76-year-old Jose Renteria of Delhi, was taken to Memorial Medical Center with major injuries.

His passenger, an 80-year-old woman from Delhi, was taken to Doctors Medical Center, where she later died, authorities said.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 16-year-old girl from El Dorado Hills, suffered minor injuries and was not hospitalized. A 77-year-old passenger in the pickup, a man from Winton, was not injured.

Investigators said the teen driver was traveling south on Gratton Road and approached a stop sign at East Avenue but failed to yield the right of way. Renteria was driving west on East Avenue when the Honda struck the left side of the pickup in a broadside crash.

All occupants were wearing seat belts, and drugs or alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash, according to the CHP.
