La Loma neighborhood group leader resigns
Mike Moradian, who resurrected the La Loma Neighborhood Association seven years ago and spearheaded a host of neighborhood projects, is resigning.
"It's been a great run ," Moradian wrote in an e-mail to association members. "But I feel my time has come to step down. I've enjoyed working with each and every one one of you. We have accomplished so much positive in this neighborhood over the years."
The association's accomplishments include establishing a neighborhood security patrol, which is supported by payments from association members, revitalizing Moran Estate Park and addressing problems with the homeless.
"What he accomplished was staggering, amazing," said Modesto Councilman Joe Muratore, whose council district includes the La Loma neighborhood and its roughly 7,100 residents.
Moradian was one of the community leaders behind the recent $100,000 restoration of Modesto's arch, which has welcomed visitors downtown for a century. He could not be reached for comment.
