Update: One dead, several hurt in four-vehicle crash in north Stanislaus County. ID’d by coroner
One person was killed and several were injured Friday afternoon in a four-vehicle collision on Highway 4 in the north tip of Stanislaus County, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The person killed was Aiko King, 28, of Modesto, who was riding in a 2025 Jeep SUV.
The crash happened about 2:15 p.m. east of Dunton Road.
The preliminary investigation found that the driver of the Jeep was traveling east on SR-4. He made an unsafe passing maneuver, crossing over solid double yellow lines to overtake another vehicle, the CHP reported.
The Jeep collided head-on with a westbound Tesla truck. The Jeep overturned onto its roof, while the driver of the Tesla lost control and collided with an eastbound Subaru sedan.
The force of the impact detached a wheel from the Subaru, which struck a westbound Hyundai SUV. The driver of the Subaru lost control, and the car struck a metal fence and came to rest in a field.
All four vehicles sustained major crash damage. King was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Jeep, 24-year-old Kevyn Correa of Antioch, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Three other passengers in the Jeep also suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospitals.
The driver of the 2024 Tesla truck, a 51-year-old male from Angels Camp, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.
The driver of the 2021 Subaru sedan, a 38-year-old Oakland man, was not injured. Two passengers in the Subaru, including a 1-year-old girl, also were uninjured.
Also uninjured were the driver of the 2016 Hyundai SUV, a 53-year-old Copperopolis man, and his passenger.
All vehicle occupants were wearing their seatbelts, the CHP reported, and alcohol and/or drugs were not factors in the crash.
Highway 4 east of Dunton Road was closed for about three hours for the investigation.
