Update: Coroner IDs woman, 76, killed while trying to cross Modesto avenue
A woman was struck and killed Friday night when she tried to cross Pelandale Avenue but went into the path of an oncoming vehicle, Modesto police report.
The collision was at about 6:30 p.m., just west of Prescott Road, according to a news release.
The investigation determined Jasbir Kaur, 76, of Modesto, was walking north along a canal when she started to cross Pelandale. She was struck by an eastbound vehicle and died at the scene.
The driver, also a Modesto resident, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.
The news release says drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision.
