Hughson councilmember accuses mayor of sexual assault, harassment
A Hughson city councilmember has publicly accused Mayor George Carr of sexual assault and sexual harassment, allegations Carr denied Tuesday, calling them “completely false.”
Councilmember Susana Vasquez, who was elected to the Hughson City Council in 2024, made the allegations in a written statement released publicly Monday.
In the statement, Vasquez alleges that Carr sexually assaulted and sexually harassed her. “It is with great regret to share with you that I, Susana Vasquez, councilmember for the City of Hughson, have experienced sexual assault and sexual harassment from our City Mayor, George Carr,” she wrote.
“Disclosing this has been one of the most difficult decisions I have had to make, and it is a situation which has been difficult to endure,” Vasquez added.
Carr said the allegations are part of an “ongoing investigation” and he could not discuss the matter publicly.
In a statement to The Bee, Hughson City Manager Dominique Romo said the city is aware of Vasquez’s public statement but would not comment on specifics, citing legal and confidentiality limitations.
“The city takes any allegation of misconduct seriously,” Romo said. “The city is committed to ensuring a safe environment for all who work for and interact with the city,” and “does not tolerate retaliation against anyone who raises concerns or participates in any review process.”
Carr was first elected to the Hughson City Council in 2010. He was appointed mayor in 2021 to fill a vacancy left by then-Mayor Jeramy Young, who resigned weeks after being reelected when he accepted a position as Livermore’s police chief. Carr ran unopposed in 2022.
It was not immediately clear whether Hughson Police Services is investigating the claims. Requests seeking confirmation of any report or investigation were not immediately returned.
