Woman dies after being struck by Union Pacific train in downtown Modesto
A 48-year-old Modesto woman died last week after being struck by a Union Pacific Railroad train in downtown Modesto, authorities said.
Modesto police officers responded around 5:20 p.m. on Jan. 19 to reports of a train hitting a pedestrian near the intersection of Ninth and L streets, according to the Police Department.
The woman was found injured at the scene and was taken to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries, police said.
The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as Sara Millicent, 48, of Modesto.
Police said the circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation. Authorities have not released details on how the woman came into contact with the train or whether any contributing factors were involved.
