Before heading out on New Year’s Eve, it’s worth checking local store hours. Many Modesto-area businesses will be closed or operating on reduced schedules for the holiday.
The Modesto Bee contacted local businesses to find out how New Year’s Eve 2025 and New Year’s Day 2026 will affect store and service hours.
Below is a list of what will be open or closed in Stanislaus County on Wednesday, Dec. 31, and Thursday, Jan. 1.
Hours can vary by location, so be sure to check with your local store before heading out.
When are Modesto grocery stores open for New Year’s Eve?
The Modesto area is home to a variety of grocery stores, supermarkets and other retailers.
Here’s when major retail chains will be open on Wednesday, Dec. 31, and Thursday, Jan. 1, and which ones will close:
- BevMo!: Open 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. New Year’s Eve; open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. New Year’s Day.
- Cost Less: Open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
- Costco: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. New Year’s Eve; closed New Year’s Day.
- FoodMaxx: Open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. New Year’s Eve; open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. New Year’s Day.
- O’Brien’s Market: Open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. New Year’s Eve; open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. New Year’s Day.
- Raley’s/Bel Air: Open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
- Safeway: Open 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. New Year’s Eve; open New Year’s Day 5 a.m. to 2 a.m. Jan. 2.
- Sprouts: Open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. New Year’s Eve; open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. New Year’s Day.
- Target: Open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. New Year’s Eve; open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. New Year’s Day.
- Trader Joe’s: Open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. New Year’s Eve; closed New Year’s Day.
- Vallarta Supermarkets: Open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. New Year’s Eve; open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. New Year’s Day.
- Walmart: Open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
- Winco: Open 24 hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Is Vintage Faire Mall open on New Year’s Eve?
Vintage Faire Mall will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. The shopping mall will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
Individual restaurants and retailers, including Dave & Buster’s, can have different hours, so it’s best to contact them directly.
Are local pharmacies open on New Year’s Day?
Holiday hours will impact local pharmacies and drugstores on both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
On New Year’s Eve — Wednesday, Dec. 31 — CVS Pharmacy will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., with pharmacy services available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The CVS store will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1, for New Year’s Day, and pharmacy counters will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Walgreens will also observe reduced hours due to the holiday.
On New Year’s Eve, Walgreens will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., with pharmacy hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
You can shop at Walgreens from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on New Year’s Day, but pharmacy services won’t be available that day.
What’s closed on New Year’s Day in Modesto?
Most government offices in Modesto, including the California Department of Motor Vehicles, U.S. Postal Service and public libraries, will be closed on New Year’s Day.
Most banks will also be closed for the holiday.
On New Year’s Eve, some businesses and services will operate on reduced hours.
The DMV will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., while USPS offices will close at 2 p.m.
Package delivery companies, including FedEx and UPS, will operate on modified hours on New Year’s Eve and will not deliver on New Year’s Day.
